We interrupt the usual frivolity...

... for me to comment on the profound moment that is the execution of Osama Bin Laden.  It's an event I was afraid I'd never see, and I am thrilled and awed at the perseverance of American justice.  It's obviously not the end of all this, but deeply significant.

The usual facetiousness will resume here shortly.

  2. Dear Dave, I was there when the towers came down, it was the most terrible sight to see, grown men were weeping, I for years had nightmares of the scene, but today, I am glad for the realatives of those that lost their loved ones, maybe this will bring them some peace. your friend BOB

  3. In a small country far away from the USA, I can still remember the day of the planes. Funny how even then as a grown woman, I drove straight to my parents place - I wanted my Dad's comfort at the horror that I have just witnessed.

People can spew their political, religious rhetoric - but for me it is nothing more than gibberish. There has never been, never will be any justification for these type of acts.

I do sincerely hope that this news do bring some form of closure for so many people left hurt and wounded in their souls...

    Hugs

  4. As your last commenter said I hope this brings some sense of justice for those who have lost loved ones.
I think it is an important day and a solemn one. I can't celebrate the death of anyone (and I do not think you are either) but I can respect all the men and women who have lost their lives due to the efforts of this man. He attacked Kenya, Bali, America and other places - all those people and their families, all the soldiers and their families. I think I just feel awed by the sorrow and suffering that preceded this event.
America needed, deserved and fought for justice.
I hope somehow we can all start to move a little closer to peace although I suspect the path to peace will take years and there may be reprisals to face meanwhile. But we will face them together.

  5. I just heard it on the radio, and will always remember where I was when I heard this wonderful news. Why did it take so long to find him?

    Thanks for posting this.

  8. I found out about this in an unusual place: the Eruptions blog from one of the posts. It is a day of justice and we must beware of gloating. There will be some reprisals.

They almost got him a few years ago, but they missed his car and he escaped. As for why it took so long, it was because he rarely stayed in one place more than one night. I suspect he was having to stay put more often because of his need for dialysis. Of course, his #2 man will take over now.

  10. I watched the towers go down and my heart stalled in disbelief. The level of hate and cruelty some human beings are capable of sickens me. I wish all the prejudice, intolerance, and violence had died with him.

Thank you for marking the day, D.W.

  14. Thank you, Dave Wolfe, thank you for noting this momentous event in an understated and respectful way. Respectful towards all the families worldwide who were and still are affected by these heinous acts.

I know people who worked in the Twin Towers, thankfully they all made it out alive, but to this day they are marked by that tragic event and will carry that mark for the rest of their days. I hope the death of the man responsible eases their burdens.
