They NEED A Blisterin'

The artificial contrivance known as Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend.  I've never heard anyone cheer it, nor has anyone ever given me a good explanation for it.  But somebody's making money from it somewhere and somehow, because not only does it continue, but they've actually expanded the damned feckless thing. In fact, I think it's longer now than when I did this "Discipline and Desire" cartoon.  Or maybe it just seems longer.  But whoever is responsible...

  1. I don't like Daylight Savings at all! Almost makes me want to move to Arizona! Great toon!

  2. The bright glow from her bottom should account for some extra daylight.

I hate missing the hour of sleep, seems like as soon as it is light out in the morning it's time to make it dark again.

    Great 'toon, Wolfie.

  3. Thanks, gals! Yes, as the earth travels around the sun, and seasons change, the days are longer in spring and summer anyway, and there is no reason to artificially expand that. None of the animals are ever fooled.

  4. I think everyone dislikes the distruption daylight savings starting and ending brings. We are about to come to the end of daylight savings....means ill be going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Roll on summer 2013!
Great cartoon btw :D such talent.

    1. Aw, shucks, thanks, Kiwigirliegirl!

I had some other friends in the UK tell me about DST over there, but I'm not sure how it works, or if it's in sync with the way the Powers That Be do it here.

  5. A blisterin'?! Noooooo! I LOVE Daylight Savings Time! We could avoid the disruption of it coming and going by having DST all year round. :-) And who says DST is a contrivance?! Maybe it's the other way around. Dr. Einstein says time is relative. :-)

Anyway, I want it all the time! Winter is dark enough without having the sun disappear at 5:30 pm. It is rainy and oh-so-dreary here today; I hate that. I'll bet every light in my house is on.

Great toon, DW! Except I think that woman deserves a reward! He should be giving her a gg spanking. ;-)

I really, REALLY like the pencil drawing, DW. Guess I'm a ludite at the bottom of my heart. :-)

DW, how come we didn't get a teaser peek of the new Wolfietoon on D&D? I think an inkblot would work… :-)

    1. Hm, Time is relative.

Come to think of it, so is Humidity.

But all seriousness aside, LL, you have supplied the first reasonable rationale I've heard for Daylight Larkin' Time. There are people, including some loved ones of mine, whose depression is made worse by lack of sunlight. Assuming they get outdoors when they get off work, they could get some light and possibly vitamin D.

And how did you know Ms Aberdeen's first name was Gigi?

  6. Larken, I am all for the extra daylight, just not getting up when it is dark. Instead of changing the clock we need to work on having the sun stay out longer in the winter too.

I will share some of my sunshine with you.

    1. Kaki, you reminded me of a line from the Firesign Theatre: When the fellow complains that it's late, he's tired, and the Sun is going down, a voice very much like W.C. Fields responds, "No, no, my boy, you're mistaken! The Horizon is coming up!"

  7. Perfect, Kaki! Why didn't we think to order that in the first place? ;-)

Aw, you're so sweet to share your sunshine. Thank you! :-)

  8. Opinions about DST may differ, but I would hope one thing we could all agree on is the utility of corporal punishment for female politicians! And Ms. Aberdeen is well-made for the belt the way you've drawn her.

There actually are quite a few politicians I'd like to belt.
