What Tha?

Once before (in fact, here!) I facetiously suggested that Kurt Schaffenberger could have made that (in)famous Lois Lane comic book spanking panel sexier.

But, all seriousness aside, they deliberately didn't.  First of all, their target audience in 1960 was mostly young youngsters, and besides, they were going for the Lucille Ball sitcom type humor, not the Jane Mansfield Burlesque sort.

Nevertheless, all these decades later, some misguided miscreant has altered the original art to see what it might have looked like if responsible adults hadn't been in charge.

Tsk!  Honestly.

(Surreptitiously wipes paint off his paws)

Here, I'd better present the art as intended and published, to prevent the salacious seduction of the innocent.

  1. I always thought that comic spanking scene interesting as it was drawn to feature a great view of Lois's bottom , which is perhaps risque enough for a 'kids' comic book.
It's too bad the artist decided to draw Lois's derrierre in such an unattractive way though.
I much prefer the 'panties' version even though it omits the garter belt and stockings worn by ladies at the time!
Perhaps that would be pushing the envelope a little too far?

    1. Thanks, Glen'!
Yes, I've done countless variations of that panel over the decades!
I suppose the stockings might have been added, but, thinking literally, Lois would have taken those off to go to bed!
The caption from Otto Binder (rhymes with "cinder") said she had "donned Kryptonian nightwear," but I always thought it was pretty conservative Kryptonian nightwear!

    2. Come to think of it, why is she wearing High Heel Slippers? Maybe she had stockings on, after all! Deedle, deedle, dumpling, my son John!

  2. Dave:

In all the times I have seen this toon over the years Lois always seemed like an asexual albeit naughty figurine. But now, with her skirt raised, pink panties exposed (love that touch), and nicely rounded bottom, she is suddenly transformed into a most desirable but naughty little fem. It was a small touch, but skillfully done, and it's another example of your talent and vision as an artist!!

    Well Done!!

    1. Thank you very much, Rick! Oddly enough, I generally disapprove of altered art, unless the Modifier makes it clear it was done-- and tries to do it well!
Comic spankings then were meant to be comic, perhaps with an edge of sexiness, like the movie and sitcom versions. But with that in mind, we can enjoy a little racier version!

  3. See even super heros know how to take care of female villians. That's one super spanking. I'm sure she won't be sitting down for a month

    1. Before they had done that spanking, there were some "Lois Lane" readers (or at least one with a bunch of names) clamoring for it! Before he gave the go-ahead, editor Mort Weisinger told one of them in the letters column, "If Superman spanked Lois, it would send her traveling through Time!" :-D
