--does anyone else remember the photo from "People" magazine of teenager Susan Ford being playfully spanked by her brother?
I think it was "People;" it was a relatively new rag then. The article was about the presidential kids when Gerry Ford was in office, and probably sometime in '75 or '76.
The photo showed one of her brothers (I don't remember which) holding her around the waist, her face toward the camera, while he took a whack or several at the seat of her trousers. The caption was something like, "Susan yowls as (Whatzisname) administers a brotherly spanking."
It was pretty cute, but I've never seen that picture on the Interwebs. And I've looked. Found other Ford Family photos, and now you're seeing them, too.
Here's a recent one of Susan.
Anyway, if you run across it, sing out.
And meanwhile, speaking of the Seventies:
(I'm pretty sure that was taken with a Kodak Instamatic with the Flash Cube on top.)
Yep, Dave, I remember that photo! Pretty sure you're right about it being "People" magazine. I want to say that it was her brother, Steven, who was spanking her round Republican rear--memory being what it is, though, I wouldn't swear to it. I do remember saving that magazine for a long, long time. Eventually it must have gotten thrown out. It was a nice little unexpected photo, though.
ReplyDeleteHi, Doc, and thanks! Nice alliteration there, too!
DeleteYes, it was a nice surprise-- I ran across it in the barber shop, or the men's styling salon, or whatever they had decided to call tonsorial establishments in the 70's! That was back when I had a sort of Mike Nesmith style going.
I bet you're right about Steven. I've been trying to remember exactly when that article appeared-- fall of '77? Or earlier? Maybe we can track that issue down and find out for sure.
I haven't found the image, but someone is selling the magazine on ebay. It's the 21st of October 1974 one.

Thank you, Ingen! I couldn't recall if it was so early in Ford's term of office. I'm thinking about actually buying it, but that postage seems silly. We'll see-- and thanks again!
DeleteI don't remember that photo at all, but I sure do remember that Kodak camera. That was my first camera, a Kodak instamatic 124. Those flash cubes used to drive me crazy because if you only had one bulb left you had to remember not to put it in the front because it turned when it flashed. Funny, I can remember that but not what I went downstairs to get.
ReplyDeleteFunny 'toon, Dave. We all think we look so cool at that age, don't we?
We WERE cool, Kaki! The Seventies had STYLE!
DeleteAh, those Kodak Quirks, I'd forgotten! Film seems such a cumbersome format now.
Maybe you were going downstairs to get the photo albums with your Hot Pants pictures for all of us??
