Autumn Activities!

So Autumn activities have begun, and although the very worst of the heat is done, things still seem a little warm.

Well, sure, that'll do it.

The very model of an imp!

Here is Tinker Bell, desperately trying to extricate herself from the keyhole of the drawer she was shut into in the Disney version of "Peter Pan."

(Larken sent me that animation, bless her very much and many love pats!)

Now, imagine that scene twenty-two feet tall and fifty-two feet wide, and the impact it had upon fourteen-year old Wolfie in the darkened movie theatre!  I was transfixed, mesmerized, completely captivated, then and forever in love with that imp! 

Tink has truckloads of personality and attitude, and I discovered that a lot of that was the talent of the spritely young actress-dancer that Mr. Disney, his directors and animators hired to model Tinker Bell-- Margaret Kerry!

(I've wondered if she actually performed that little booty dance, and if they still have those clips.) 

But look what Margaret also shares on her website--!

That was among the publicity pictures-- and Margaret says it was the most popular publicity picture!-- for one of the first big TV family sitcoms, "The Charlie Ruggles Show," starring Charlie Ruggles as Daddy Charlie Ruggles, and Margaret Kerry as his naughty college-aged daughter!

Or, maybe after this, she wasn't naughty enough to get spanked on TV.  Drat!!  

Some brides have been, y'know.

 (And yes, I know that was only a publicity shot, too!  I watched the whole movie waiting for it!  Drat again!)

(By the way, if you can't remember seeing Charlie Ruggles before, you have if you've seen Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in "Bringing Up Baby!"  And if you haven't seen that, you have a lack to address!)

Anyhow, I thought it was delightful that the model for the pixie so many would love to lovingly spank actually got some loving spanks herself!  (Or we can pretend so!)

Now, I could be a wise guy (imagine such a thing) and say Dave needs to get out and see more art, but I'm very pleased, and will refrain from such drollery!

There are a lot of businesses that use the corny cliche about "delighting our customers."

There are also five snappy snippets from some of my favorite "D&D" authors, and, for all to enjoy, two entire and entirely free chapters from "D&D" books:  an out-West trip to the woodshed (so to speak) for a gal in Judith McLaren's "Vengence Creek," and the intriguing first chapter of Robin Smith's "Hopler's Happy Toads!"  (Her husband said, "All right, young lady, that's it, I toad you and I toad you!"  No, no, no. that's just WolfieStuff-- Robin writes much better!)

The Lost TV Spanking, or, Vincent Pats Pat!

I told this story over at MySpaz,  so if you already read it, you've just saved lots of time!


For anyone else:  On a TV game show in the 60's called "Everybody's Talking,"  Vincent Price gave Pat Carroll a short spanking for repeatedly cleaning his clock in the competition!

(That's what newspaper people used to call a "lead sentence,")  


Possibly my favorite Vincent Price movie is "The Abominable Dr. Phibes," with its dark humor and classy and creative storytelling,  Vince could ham it up, but he also put in some splendid performances, and was a compassionate, cultured,  and absolutely hilarious man!


For example,  after a very long taping of a string of "drop-ins" for a kids' show in Canada, he disappeared for a bit, then burst back in with cases of ice-cold beer for the entire crew, and sat around with them swapping stories!


He broke the tension on the "Batman" TV set by starting an enormous egg fight at the end of an "Egghead" scene!


And he apparently loved being on the talk shows, and popped up on a lot of the game shows, too, having a ball, but also really going after the win!

Probably most people will know Pat Carroll for her performance as Ursula the Sea Witch in the Disney "Little Mermaid," but of course, she's had a long and wonderful career/  You might catch her on Netflix or something as one of the Stepsisters in the Rogers and Hammerstein "Cinderella," the one from the  '60's, with Lesley Ann Warren in the title role.

So, the game show was called "Everybody's Talking," and its premise was that three contestants watched short film clips of people on the street describing something or someone, and the contestants tried to beat the running clock and name the topic.  The quicker you guessed it, the more points and dough you won.

So, one late morning or early afternoon circa Summer of '67,  they had a celebrity version, with Vincent Price, Pat Carroll, and some other dude I forgot playing for charities.

Pat was beating the dress socks off the two fellas.  In fact, I don't think they had even had the chance to get ONE answer!  

A new series of clips started, with people saying things like "there are times when nothing else will do the job!"  "You want to be firm but not too hard!"  and  "The closer to the meat the better!"  Pat rang her buzzer, they froze the film, and she declared, "They're talking about SPANKING!"

Everyone laughed, and the host-- Peter Marshall or Wink Martindale or somebody-- noting how well she was trumping her opponents, began, "Well, Pat, if you're right--"

Price interrupted with a menacing growl, "She'll GET a spanking!"

Well-- she was, and did!

They finished the run of clips, the superimposed word "SPANKING" flashed on the screen, the audience began howling, and they cut back to show a terrific stage spanking-- Price holding Carroll under one arm and smacking her bottom with the other!

Everyone loved it!  Even Pat!  And especially me!

I'm wondering if anyone else around here happened to have seen that, if I'm mis-remembering most of it, and if that particular tape was bulk-erased or if it might still show up on "The Game Show Channel" or somewhere?

SuperToonMan, who can change the course of mighty Imps, bend pencil lines with his bare hands, and, who, disguised as Dave Wolfe, mild mannered cartoonist for a great metropolitan blog, fights a never-ending battle for truth (as he sees it), justice (for Imps), and the Spanko-American way!

Petunia Pig Gets Whacked!

Talking about Bob Clampett in the previous post, "Time For Beany," made me remember one of his most famous Warner Brothers cartoons, "Porky In Wackyland!"  (You can click that YouTube link if you've never seen it, or want to again!)  He goes to Wackyland in search of the Last DoDo!


So, the Wolfie Mind being what it is, I thought, "Hm, Porky's girlfriend Petunia should get whacky, too!"  And behold, here is a companion piece for the Daisy Duck Paddling WolfieToon.   

  


I could say "He's really bacon those hams!"  But, no-- one has to know when to curly-tail the puns.

Time For Beany! (Off Topic-- Pretty Much)

If you're disappointed that this entry doesn't have anything (much) to do with spanking, you can blame Larken, and take her right over your lap!  


For 'twas she who put me in mind of Cecil the Sea-Sick Sea-Serpent at this earlier post,  and I thought perhaps you'd like to chillax after a hard Monday with a cold beverage and some chuckles, found at the YouTube link below.

"Time For Beany!" was a brilliant, Emmy-winning "kids' show" on KTLA, Los Angeles in the late 50's.  Its fans included, no kidding, Harpo Marx and Albert Einstein! 

It was the brainchild of  Bob Clampett, animator, writer, director, and one of the several guys at Warner Brothers who developed Bugs Bunny!  

His star performers were Daws Butler and Stan Freberg!

You may not recognize Daws' name, but you've enjoyed his performances thousands of times;  he was the actor who voiced countless cartoon creations, especially at Hanna Barbera.  His characters included Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Cap'n Crunch, Quick Draw Magraw, Elroy Jetson, Aesops's son on the "Bullwinkle" show, Various Bad Guys, and Three Gazillion more.  Note that Huckleberry Hound is pretty much the same voice Daws had used earlier for the Wolf (!!) in the MGM Droopy cartoons! 

Besides voice acting, Stan Freberg is a humorist, writer of renown, and a legendary parodist.  He won awards for his TV commercials and magazine ads.  Enter his name in the YouTube search and enjoy!

Eventually the live puppet show ran its course, but a short time later, Beany and company reappeared in animated cartoon form.

So, here for your enjoyment is one of my faves, featuring a jungle beatnik, Go Man Van Gogh.

Oh, here's a confession:  I "borrowed" one of Bob's jokes for a Halloween WolfieToon at "Discipline and Desire!"  At the end of one of the Beany and Cecil cartoons (as I recall from childhood)  the Mad Doctor who owns a haunted castle our heroes had gone into spanks the Invisible Man for creating havoc.  Invisible Man is only wearing his hat, sunglasses, gloves and boots.  I changed that to the Invisible Woman, with her skirt up over her invisible behind.  :-D   Now, I might be mis-remembering, and got that gag from some other show, but it does seem very Clampett!
